Hello Mercedes enthusiasts!

I recently acquired a 1997 Mercedes SL600 AMG V12 roadster, with Renntech upgrades from a family friend who passed away
The car has 49k miles, in excellent condition and is wicked fast!

I love this car, but I know nothing of its value. The book value is in the low 12k range but from what the previous owner told me it was 120k car new with 25+k in upgrades. Including engine upgrades and Renntech parts. not to mention the 1k tires and all the money that he told me he dumped into this car throughout the years. The only problem is I don't have a detailed description on the upgrades and his wife can't seem to find the documentation, although she claims to have it somewhere.

The owner paid around 40 grand for her in the early 2000s, I can't believe that a car that was barely driven is worth a quarter of that today..according to the books.

I love this car and plan to keep it, but I am trying to find its true value to the right buyer who is a collector of Mercedes. I have come to understand that this model and year is rare and is much harder to find then other years, and the 500 models.

The car is in overall amazing shape! no rust and little wear. It has a brand new soft top which I was told cost 6k. Also has a fixed hard top.

The car is a dream to drive. On start up it brings a nice roar, the Renntech exhaust proceeds to purr through the gears unless you hit what seems like a button underneath the gas pedal......then the raw horses kick in and send you into hyperspace. The car cuts off at 150-160 range which I believe is easily achievable. The sound the car brings is sheer high performance . My dear friend/previous owner told me it had over 400+ horsepower which I believe is over the stock HP. I would like to have it dynoed in the future to find out the exact numbers.

Does anyone know how much this car is worth to the right buyer, or what it would bring at an auction. I have no intention of selling it, but it would be nice to know the value of my new asset. It is almost a classic so hopefully it will go up in value instead of down throughout the years.

I honestly can't believe that a car this beautiful and such a marvel in technology for its day, at 120+ thousand dollars is worth so little today.
It is almost despicable, seeing cars such as a cheap mustang worth more than this gem.

I hope that I can stay apart of the Mercedes family, which shouldn't be a problem as long as the car doesn't break! So next spring it will have full coverage and will be babied, as I can't afford thousand of dollars in repairs.

I hope someone on here admires this car as much as I do. It has sentimental value and reminds me of my dear friend every time I hop in the captains seat. Before he passed, he told me that it was a nice car, but I shouldn't feel the need to hold on to it and that I should sell it because although it is nice it may be a headache if it ever breaks. I think I will do the latter, take care of it and it and hope for the best.
