1993 sl 500 insrument panel background lights not working

1993 sl 500 insrument panel background lights not working

instrument panel background lights went out. Tried fuses.
they appear o.k. Any suggestions?

have you tried turning the left thin **** coming out of the cluster to the right?

Is that the cruise control ****? or the windshield washer/wiper ****?

Thank you. The control **** was turned all the way to the left.
The instrument panel lights are now on.
