Craig,
Wheel coatings are a judgement call based on how authentic you want to be and what you can afford. The two basic alternatives are powder coat, or paint. Check local yellow pages where you live for a powder coater and I would also look for one of those mobile wheel guys that comes to you, preps and paints the wheels for usually around $40@.
I personally like the paint better. Powder coat re-magnetizes the wheel as an eletric current is passed through the wheel to attract and hold the 'powder';this thenattracts brake dust like crazy making the wheels look like crap after 100 miles. Paint does not have the same effect. The wheels still get brake dust on them, but alot less, and they're easier to clean.
