What are the two rear "mini antennas" for?

Am in the process of looking at a 1995 S320 sedan to purchase. Have looked at the car twice now and still don't understand what the two metal rods (one on each side of the rear)
are for. They raise up about 3" and just look like small power antennas. Are these parking aids?
Thanks.

They are parking guide rods that elevate when reverse gear is selected. To the best of my knowledge they were discontinued in 1994, so make sure you are buying a 1995 model, not 1994. I have owned a 1994 S420 which had them, and they are not on my 1995 S500.

That's cool. I wish I had a set on my truck. I could use them when I have my slide-in camper on it.
You're not saying you can actually see what you're backing into with the antenna system, are you?
I much prefer this method [the antenna system] over the "new audible warning system" because, with the new system, you cannot actually see what you are backing into!!
