okay, I'm down to two cars in the choice for my next car.
They are the 1995-2001 BMW 7 series or...
The 1995-1999 Mercedes S-Class. Prefer S420 but S500 or S600 (4 door or two door) is great too. Will even settle for a S320. Can I get the ups and downs of these three?
Not only for me, but someone else I know is on the verge of buying the S500. any info from people with experiences with these cars is helpful.

if to choose between E38 and W140...
i like driving the slender E38 because of it's good response and nice illumination at night. makes me feel like sitting on a pilot's cockpit.
W140 feels heavy on stop and go, but excellent on highways. it runs at 180km/h but you feel it's like 80km/h, and wanted to step more on it. reserve power is always there and handling is easy compared to E38 which got more road feel.

RE: W140
well I actually meant a comparison between the S-Class models.
I already got the info I need for the E38 and it's a beautiful car.I even test drove a few (perks of being a regular customer at the BMW dealership.). It's nice smooth, quiet, and I always thought BMW had one of the best cockpit lighting. Even in my old 87 735i the interior illumination is beautiful at night. And I test drove a couple of them newer 2002-2005 7 series; Very nice cars but just a little out of my price range and the technical electronics are awesome but that weird trunk thing and they even comes with voice commandand. The new one I really can't afford right now unless I want to be eating Ramen Noodles for a few years. And the IRS might audit me and question how can a 22 year old E4 afford a new BMW 7 series, a Mercedes 560SEL and a classic BMW 7 series.
I think when I make my choice I don't think I will regret it. Since I own both my cars already, there is really no car payment I have to get rid of so selling either is not mandatory (never selling the Benz and if the BMW "sells", it will go to a very close family member that is planning on keeping it forever (like my dad.) and that's only because it's very hard, almost impossible for a single person in the military to move three cars around with him over the world. It was very difficult with two. But I miss my BMW.)

if i were to chose between the 1995-1999 range, i will get the S320. it can give what you expect for. >>low maintenance<<>>heavy feel on stop and go>>
S500 got more bit power on it and that funny reverse guide antenna, but you can't feel much of the difference.>>can burn rubber<<>>high maintenance + headache<<
the S600, yes... it's a monster. i love how it growls everytime i step on the accelerator, and i want to step more.>>fun to drive<<>>ME engine is low maintenance but the LH engine is a big headache<<.

RE: W140
ME is motor electronics or electronic ignition. got individual coils.
LH is luft massen messung hizdrath or something. Luft for air and Hizdrath for hotwire. old type air mass sensor.
(pardon my german spelling)
