ah this problem is not unheard of. I forget the fix off the top of my head but it's a simple solution iirc.

Please can you try to remember the solution. I did try to put the ignition on and turn the stearing and try to change the gear but it did not work.

Ah yes I remember now. See if our brake lights come on. If they do not, then the problem might be the brake light switch.

If they do come on, then it might be the fuse for the selector control module.

Now did anything spill onto the shifter or it get wet somehow? If so, that's not good and assmebly might have to be replaced.
Alright, if the brake lights is good and the fuses are good. And you're handy with taking things apart here's another hing that can cause a problem and where people go out and spend $1000 or so getting a new shifter box. Not yet, until this is checked. Sometimes, people use a hammer but they tend to break something which is... described below.

Inside the box is a little plastic piece that shouldnt cost no more than a quarter, is responsible for allowing the shifter to go out of park. this plastic piece is moved by a solenoid that allows you to move th shifterout of park. this solenoid is usually activated by the brake switch workings (thus if it fails it wont activate and the plastic piece wont move). Now when this part gets old, as it'sa frail looking piece of thing, it gets stuck in the safety position and the solonoid is not able to push it out the way so you can shift.
Now, in order to get to that blasted thing, you miht have to remove the whole box which I hear requires the unconnecting of the linkage under the car.
From the way it looks, that plastic piece was not meant to be stand alone replacement and I doubt anyone of the corporate mindset will push for it to be so since that little 5 cent piece causes people to spend $1000 and up on a new unit and a new new unit seems easier to install and more profitable from a cost labor standpoint of buisness than tinkering with a 5 piece thing and making money off labor alone. But if you are a tinkerer and have small hands and patience you can save loads if you can get your hands on that plastic piece from a junker or somewhere else.

Default Transmission problem

Thanks Blackwolf for your reply. The garage I took my car S280 Merc. to connected it to the computer. Will the computer show whether the selector fuse is faulty? They did not check the fuse. The brake lights are fine. I do not know much about cars but can I check the fuse myself.

<!--td {border: 1px solid #cccccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->The field of neural networks has experienced explosive growth over the past year. Breakthroughs in transformer architectures have revolutionized natural language processing, enabling tasks like machine translation and text summarization to be performed with unprecedented accuracy. Additionally, generative adversarial networks (GANs) have continued to improve, producing increasingly realistic synthetic data. This has led to advancements in areas such as image generation, style transfer, and data augmentation. Furthermore, the integration of neural networks with other technologies, such as reinforcement learning, has created new opportunities for autonomous systems and robotics. https://chat-gpt.bot/
