Default Tires w/2003 S500 w/sports package 18"

I have a 2003 S500 with 18" wheels. It has Bridgestone Potenzas - 245/45R18s in front and 245/40R18s in back. What have you guys found to be the best tires - good quiet ride and longevity?I seem to go through them fast and really don't push it. Also, what is recommended tire pressure for low profile?

One other related problem. I'm getting some inaccurate readings from my tire pressure monitoring system as well as leakage. One of the valve stems doesn't want to let me check it manually. Anybody else having trouble with this system and found a solution?

Thanks, Jim

I sure hope you mean you have 265/40R18's on the rear. The recommended pressures for these sizes are 32 PSI front, 35 PSI rear.

As for longevity, pretty much any tire I can think of in these sizes will wear quickly as they are low-profile, high performance sizing. This, combined with the weight of the S-Class, will wear down those tires quickly.

Neon,

Yes, the rears are 265/40/18s.

Thanks on the pressure target. I have been using 32 psi all around, which was always the standard pressure in the old, old days. I spoke with a local tire guy yesterday and he said Michelin and Yokohama versions were made of harder rubber and should last longer than the softer Bridgestones. He ordered two for the rear so we'll see.
