Interested in increasing to a 17 or 18 inch. Anyone have any success with a change to either? How does it affect the ride?

 

your ride cuality will be affected, not too bad but alot more tire noise get some cuality tires to avoid this.

I recommend upgrading to 18".

 

I have a 2001 S430, I did an upgrade from 16" to 18" and the ride is smoother then ever. I bought my wheels and tires from the dealer because I want to keep the car original, the wheels package are expensive but well worth it. The appearance of the car is much more better on 18", the wheel's name is DIFDA, 18" in size with 5 Spokes, and tire name is Michelin, size: 245/45/18. If you thinking about upgrading, you should go ahead and you'll be amaze.

 

This is what I got after I changed 16 to AMG 18: My 2000/s430 use to get 19.5 – 20.5 miles per gallon. Now it's about 17 – 18 miles per gallon.

Is that 19.-20.5 MPG highway or combined highway/city?

 

I have a 2000 S430 sport with a AMG pakage , comes with 18's Amg rims, but for the winter I put on stock S430 rims with snow tires , ride is ok but with the 18's I love the look and the ride

 

50/50-highway/city. I agree that AMG 18 looks much better but you loose the gas mil and a power.. I really feel it.. I don't know how to explain that.
