Default Tire Inflation Sensor

I have a 2006 S430 4Matic with 90K on the speedometer. Recently I had COSTCO replace my 4 tires with Michelins.

A week later my dash warning light illuminated with a message telling me that the air pressure sensor was inoperative and to drive to the workshop.

When COSTCO replaced the tires, they also replaced the valve stems (including new pressure sensors in the valves).

I called a Mercedes dealer who told me the problem was the four pressure sensors and they needed to be replaced (at $250 each). Does this sound right?

I think it is too coincidental.

Thanks
Ken

yes dealer price is around 250. you really dont need to replace the sensors unless they are damaged while changing the tire or the battery dies in the sensor. the valve stems are metal and dont really have to be replaced either. they do corrode and then youll need new ones. those tire pressure systems have alot of issues and are just a pain in the *** to work on.
if you go to a MB dealer they can look and check the battery life of all 4 sensors....there are occassions when they cant be read out because of control unit failures or if the batteries are dead in the sensors it does happen sometimes.

Thanks for the info. COSTCO told me they needed to replace the metal valve stems because the batteries were approaching the end of thier life. So, everything is new. But is still gives me the bad reading. What is the controller? how much does that cost?

Thganks
