Default storing a vehicle

It's too late for me and I already went through that storage Mercedes drama, but I still want to ask and I really want an asnwer this time, what is the risks of storing a vehicle for long periods of time? Say for like between six months and a year to a few years?

And let me add that even though I caught most of the major problems (water pump replacement $511 for labor and $238 for brand new Mercedes Certified water pump.), dead battery, and such. Maybe there is some stuff that I just ain't had time to look for while I was rushing around the country trying to get buisness done in a short period of time. I really want a response.

Well I got stationed in Germany a while back. Only reason I couldn't ship my car the first time I left was that some bonehead broke the rear door driver side vent glass three days before I was to fly out, and same day i was going to ship the car the first time. Unfortunately the glass places couldn't have the glass in no earlier than three days. so Ihad to scramble and place the car in storage. When I came back six months later, the car was fine, ran fine but sprung a water pump leak (due to the previous owner using a cheap water pump.) and the tires probably needs to be rebalanced or rotated since they seem to have developed a hard spot that I can feel slightly at speeds of 65 mph (very faint.) to 80+ mph (Barely noticable, but I notice due to the fact it wasn't there when I left.) But everything ran fine. Now it's in another box on it's way to it's home land to be let loose on the Autobahn. This car has spent most of it's life in boxes under my owner so far. Good for the perfect condition paint. Even the VPC said they never seen a better consitioned 200K miles car.(Of course my car have the usual stone chips and dang shopping cart dings. A bunch of 1s for anything, even the slightest blemish, but nothing over 2. (Goes up to five for bad dings.). After doing a very deep background check on my car, I discovered the first owner was a dingbat. (I'm the third owner.) And second owner of the BMW which, to my surprise actually qualifies for that Carfax buy back thing. (Can't wait till it done being restored.)

Can't wait until I get my car again.
