inconsistant high idle/SLEEPWALKER PLEASE HELP ME
Can somebody give me more info? I just got a 1984 380se, w-126. the problem is a intermittent high idle, up to 1700-2000 r.p.m.'s, which can play havoc trying to shift from park to reverse and back. I have gone back thru several posts and have tried to fix the problem by, first, rapping on the Idle control valve, but no change in idle speed. Second, I have taken the overload protection relay out during proper idle speed. r.p.m. drop's but still runs, with a noticable surge on tach and economy gauge, as a visual. I have heard that the overload relay can have bad solder joints, and I can hear it rattle when it's out and I shake it a little. The 10 amp fuse on top is still o.k. though? Thirdly, I had a few vacuum lines that crumbled in my fingers, replaced them but still no change w/ r.p.m.. These things all happen sometimes from start up or maybe not all day during stop n go driving. I do wish to find the problem d.i.y. cause I'm disabled and social security disability checks just don't stretch. Can anone shed some light my way? I forgot to add that when she's at her "High Idle",that if I turn on the a.c. the r.p.m. drop's to almost normal but the "economy gauge" shows that it's up to about 1/4 on the gauge. RE: inconsistant high idle
I have never worked on a 380 motor so i cant help much other than say to list ur VIN number and ask sleepwalker for help. He is a mercedes mechanic in china and the best help possible on this forum. But the overload relay went on my 560 and i replaced it and now i have no problems with surging and high rpms like i did b4 i replaced it but if ur on a tight budget well like u said ur on SS so i guess u are i would wait on a response from sleepwalker. Give him time to notice ur thread though.

RE: inconsistant high idle
So, why did you chose to replace that item? Did you do a test of some kind?

RE: inconsistant high idle
I knew that they went bad and i would tap on it and it would run correctly sometimes so i figured it was bad plus one had gone bad on the 300sdl so i put two and two together and replaced it. I live in Maryland about 75 miles west of DC.
