Default S430 - S500 Purchase Questions

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays!

I'm on the market for 2000 - 2001 S430 or S500 and looking for any kind of advise. I have never owned a MB, i've been driving BMW 528 for the past 3 years and want to move up to something more stylish. I have not decided if I should get something from Ebay or go to the auction (friend of mine has a license). Can you guys/gals give me some suggestions as far as what to watch out for or check before I buy. I have a reliable mechanic for BMW's, but not for MB, so I can't even rely on anybody. If you could also suggest a good, honest, reliable mechanic in Baltimore area I would really appreciate it.
Thanx in advance for your help,
Dimapb

I am not an expert but I would suggest you to buy a Mercedes-Benz certified used car which would have a 1 year warranty. I am from Baltimore and there are two Benz dealers around R and H and ValleyMotors that would offer certified MB.

I will second that opinion, my advise is, never buy a used MB withouth additonal warranty, I purchased an additonal 2 years with my S500, the price of repair within the past 5 months is far greater the price of the 2 year warranty. Buy a Certified Pre-Owned, you won't regret it.

I hear you guys. Both of your suggestions are great and are highly appreciated. Here is my dilema...
Certified MB from the dealer $46000 and auction price for the same car $32000. Do you guys know how much the extended warranty is?

If I remember correctly, it cost me under $2K for a 5 year (up to 100K miles) extended warranty. It's a piece of mind. The first Mercedes that I had was from an auction. I will never do it again. Spend the extra money up front, that way you could enjoy your new Mercedes instead of worrying about it.

What's wrong with an auction car if it is in warranty?

Definately unrelated to the warranty question, I wanted to mention that I would buy the S500 over the S420. There's probably little savings in gettting the smaller engine when purchasing and little savings in gas milage so why not have the power.
