S430 Headlight adjustment
I'm trying to adjust the headlights on a 2001, S430. I find the screw that lowers and raises the light, but the in-out admustment appears to be some kind of a plastic device that has to be slid?? I hate to mess with it since it's plastic. Does this sound like the piece for in-out adjustment? If so, how is the adjustment done?
Thanks, Mark

RE: S430 Headlight adjustment
Mark,
You didn't advise whether Halogen or Xenon. there may be a difference.
If Xenon I can send a pic if you PM me your real email.
Basically two screws for up and down on each lamp unit.
Insert screwdriver thru sealing gasket on top of unit. Logo moulded into seal showing 1% down setting.
One screw adjusts the inner bulb. The other the outer bulb.
Sideways movement of the beam pattern is controlled by movement of the whole lamp body. Limited movement.
Achieved thru mounting screws.
No idea what this slider thing is to which you refer.
maybe I need educating.
In and Out? Don't understand to what you refer.
Vehicle had any accident damage?
Sure the mounting brackets are not bent.
Does lamp unit line up with the hood, fender, bumper shut line correctly?

RE: S430 Headlight adjustment
Stuart,I have halogen lights. When I refer to "in-out" I mean side to side. My passenger side light is shining on the shoulder rather than on the road.Toward the outside of the lighting assembly I find a screw under the sealing gasket. Adjusting this screw raises or lowers the whole assembly. Toward the center of the car there is a an identicalsealing gasket(with an "x" cut into it) for screwdriver placement. But under this spot there is no screw. There is only some kind of plastic (light gray in color) piece that appears to slide for adjusting purposes. This seemingly wouldmove the whole assembly from side to side which is what I want. You mention the "sideways" movement being controlled by the mounting screws. There seems to be no allowance at all for change through the use of the mounting screws. There is no damage to the car.Mark
