Default S class brake pads and sensors

Does anyone know if the brake wear sensors have to be replaced when the pads are replaced on a S430?
Thanks , Mark

i was told by my mechanic that if the light comes on, then you should
replace the pads and sensors.if no light, pads only.
i would change both. imo
