According to the below listed website, Mercedes did release an S420 CDI on Dec. 6, 2006. I am all messed up now! I'll call the parts department at Mercedes and get back to you.

Ok, called my Parts-guy at my local dealership, and I find that this particular part fits all 97-99 S420, S350 Turbo w/ASR - 1995, and the e420 1997. There were no diesel S420's introduced to the U.S. market for this particular model year. What we did get was the 300D. So, as it pertains to parts and numbers, we're good. Unless, of course it's a gremlin. That's a different topic all together.

I'll let you know the operation of this part, post installation/implementation.

I replaced the pumpkin last night. Now everything is just fine. No rear-end noises at all! No need for wheel-bearings to be changed, either. I sent them back for a refund. Just waiting on my 16" wheels now, tires are sitting in the garage. Wheels are on back order, bummer! Got to spend more money on springs again. Got the wrong springs, think they'll take them back? Lol, probably not?
