RE: Oil change for s430/2000 with the 29.000m
YES and NO!
Mobil 1 is a great oil and is recommended by MB.
However, I believe the recommended grade is 0w-40.
10w-30 has different characteristics and unless this is specified by MB (which I don't believe it is) you can run into problems with Warranty if anything goes wrong with your engine (whether directly due to using the "wrong" oil or not)
MB have experienced high costs associated with the use of incorrect oils in USA. (Non synthethic vs Synthethic)
Now there will be many that say that 10w-30 is fine and I wouldn't necessarily disagree with them....BUT....
Why not use the recommended oil. Different grades don'tnecessarily cost any difference.
0w-40 is superior (under normal road use conditions) to 10w-30 since it retains the required specification over a wider range of temperature. Basically the "-w" bit refers to the viscosity at low temperature and the "40" bit at high temperature.
So 0w-40 is nice and thin (0 viscosity) when cold so it can get around the engine quickly when you start from cold in the winter yet is like a 40 viscosity oil at high temperature ensuring adequate lubricity at high speed/temp.

That Mobile 0W-40 isn't all that easy to find in normal supply houses. I have used Mobile 5W-40 that has become available at Advanced Auto in gallon cans. (My MB dealer does use0W-40.

Hi,
Just out of interest how much do Walmart charge (with tax if applicable)?
Normal Retail is about £32 (60USD) for 4 litres (quarts) over here although there has recently been a Promo of 5 litres at the same price.

Well I just got a mailer from my local Mercedes dealer and they advertise that they use 5W40 Mobil1. I may go check it out since they have a coupon for a oil change special:
-Up to 8 quarts of 5W40 Mobil1
-Genuine MB oil filter
-inspect all fluids
-check tire pressure
-24 point safety inspection
The coupon is for $69.95. I can't even change my oil myself for that amount of money.

Yes, great price. The MB dealer in my area charges $150 for oil change and fluid check. One think I noticed on the post....you said it included 8 quarts. I believe most of the V 8s require 8 1/2 quarts. So, I would imagine they would either short you or tack on another $7 or $8???
