My favorite s class was the 90's one with the rectangular looking headlights. The early 2000's one was also pretty cool looking. but what the hell has mercedes done with the 06 model? Those headlights look like they came from a stupid toyota corolla. mercedes used to have a good solid look to their cars, now they all look like toyotas and hondas. Is it just me or does anybody else disappointed with this.

I agree 100% remember the days that other cars used to copy off of Mercedes I dont like the W220 (2000-2006) i do like the years u wear reffering to W140 (92-99) but i really like the W126 (81-91) hence reason y i have two. The new CLS is starting to grow on me however i dont think it i look at as typical Mercedes. Mercedes used to have that style that said i have made something of myself now look what i am able to drive and the fact that the quality of those older cars was much better. As far as the new S-class goes i think its an improvement over the W220.

 

im sorry you all feel that way. though i did go back and fourth on the cls for a long time, i really like it now. i fell in love with the new s right away. ill admit its a departure for mercedes, but then again, it draws a lot of cues from a maybach, which is , after all, a daimler produced vehicle. i guess you really have to get up close to one to appreciate how well put together it really is. ive driven a couple, and they really do feel right, a lot better than the 220's did to me anyway. the 126 is still my favorite, but this new car is really growing on me. if you havent actually seen one in person yet, id strongly suggest going to your local dealer for a closer look.

oh, and i think that mbusa is learning that they cant just rely on their name anymore, the quality slump at the turn of the century is starting to take a recession as i see it.

 

I have gone to the dealership and taken a close look at them. But i like i said the new S is alot better than the W220 my only major complaint is the placement of the shifter. And i do agree that the problems between 01-04 is becoming better but it only means that i will have to wait longer to buy a used mercedes cause well for one i cant aford the new ones yet lol plus the used ones in the 01-04 i will not buy. Of course i will never buy an ML too many problems so i will stick with the 126's for now

 

youre right . im a fna of the older diesels. you must realize that these cars are no longer bult how they used to be built. The quality has undoubtedly gone down. They are almost like fords now. Here is my justification:

You usedta buy a benz becuase you knew it would last you atleast 25 years, and it would be a great investment. They also drove like clouds and had every imaginable feature for the day. They were also extremely safe.

now adays almost every car maker puts a minimum 10 year, 150k warranty on their cars. Toyota corolas get 300k out of them and cost about 17K new. and Kias come with side curtain air bags and power everything, with leather, for under 20k.

benz needs to get their act together, stop bein influenced by US auto makers, and step the quality up a bit. there is no reason in the world that a brand new $60,000 car wont get 400,000 miles out of it without an arm and a leg in maintenance. The old diesels did....

therefore i must conclude that MBUSA has gotten their act together, with the release of a new 6 model euro style diesel class.

Yeah! W140's rule. I have a Black 1996 S500, as well as a W126 Burgundy 560 SEL.

 

U have the two best s-classes. I have 300sdl and 560sel.

to be honest with you, the W126s were much more reliable than the W140's. I have had more trouble with my W140 than I have had with my W126.

The W126 is simple, yet everything a modern driver needs. The W140 is a little more advanced, and has most of the things that the W126 has, in addition to a couple more things. But unfortunately, there are a couple more drawbacks with the W140, because it is a little more advanced, and there are more things to go wrong.

Nevertheless, I NEVER want to get rid of my two S Classes. I think they are beautiful, and they both are simply fantastic on the road.
