looking to buy 1993 300se auto- any advice?
hi, Im new to your forum today.
I am looking at a 1993 300se with 140k on it, auto transmission. It has records going back quite far and a head gasket was done at about 100k. It drives and shifts nice, no dash lights on for anything. This car is for my kid who just got his license- I want him to have a safe car. We live in Maine so am curious how these MBs handle in the snow?
I dont know anything about these cars and am looking for any tips, pointers or red flags i should look out for.
any help is appreciated!

as far as safe you got the right car if dosnt get any safer than the 140 chassie. now as far and your wallet i hope it is really thick because the early s classes were money pits. the headgaskets on those early 104 motors leaked really bad in the right front corner there is a oil gally that deadheads right into the bottom of the head and they always leaked after about 45,000 miles sometimes sooner. the transmission in that car (722.5) was the only 5 speen merceds made till the 722.6 came out in midproduction 1996. the (722.5) was a poor excuse for a transmission it head lots of problems and man were replacement pricy. those cars had all kinds of problems honestly way to many to list. so good luck with your purchase.
as far as safty i have never seen anybody die in a mercedes (WHO WAS WEARING THERE SEATBELT). take princess diana's s class accident for example the car hit the pilon at over 100 miles an hour and the only person who lived was wearing there seatbelt.
