Default Help-Power steering pump

Took my 92 500 SL to oil change and was allowed under the car. Saw power steering fluid in various areas of the under carraige however, it has not leaked to ground. I took to the dealer and they say need power steering pump gasket. They want to take the pump apart ( not put a new pump on) use a kit and replace the gasket for $1200.00. Does this make sense? Also, as stated before..the car runs great.

Update, I found that they also are recommending the pump be refurbed...I looked through some older receipts and found I paid appx. 500.00 to have the pump refurbed only 4000 miles ago. The leak is pretty small and I am checking the level to stay on top of it. Should I just watch it?

ok for starters tell them to just replace the power steering by pass hose first. mb has a real problem with them leaking. also tell fletcher jones it only pays 2.0 to replace the by pass hose. as for resealing your pump you may still need it resealed how ever that pump does not have to come off to be resealed tell those guys dont remove the pump to reseal it. they want to remove the complete bracket to reseal it tell them just remove the pump portion. book time on this repair is only 0.9. about 100 in labor and 60 in parts.
