Default Gas Pedal

I just traded another car with huge engine for this reliable MB 1986 560SEL.

I love the way it drives.

To the point...

The gas pedal had the metal part that anchors it come apart. So, i bought a new pedal. However the area the holds it down from the bottom has no place to grip due to rust any suggestions??

Have a body shop cut out and replace the rusted section.

this might make sense however, it is odd. The area that anchors the pedal to the floor....and i am not able to see anything, it is covered with the sound absorbing black good under the rug...

If the metal under there is ok (not rusted), maybe you could cut out that section from another car and bolt it on top (remove the black stuff for a few inches around there).

Or make your own bracket which you can mount on top.

Or have a machine shop make a bracket for you.

But if the metal is rusted under there (floor pan), then there will not be anything sturdy to bolt to. And if the whole floor pan is rusted, then some day you may look like the Flintstones cartoon with your feet sticking out the bottom of the car!
