Default False Bulb Light Alerts

Hey there Benz Enthusiasts,

I am having an annoying problem with my Bulb Out indicator in the instrument cluster. It keeps coming on intermittently, and there are no exterior bulbs blown. What could be the cause of this false alert?

I would appreciate any suggestions as to what can be done to stop these annoying false alerts. I am always having to shut the vehicle off and restart. Then drive a while, and there it is again. This just started recently, and it's driving me nuts.

"To respond squarely" (??)

I had similiar problem on my 93 600SEL. By reseating all of the rear lamp bulbs, several times, and for a 2ea., using paper or something similiar, around the upper base of the bulb, tightened the fit. The plastic bulb holders get hot and expand over time.
Worked for me.

Thanks for your input. What I've done was cleaned all the exterior bulbs and applied di-electric grease to them and reinstalled them. Everything seems fine. During the inspection I did notice that some of the bulbs' lead tips were worn or flattened out. The lead is soft so I remolded them, applied the grease and reinstalled them. Things are well right now, until it happens again. Thanks again.
