Default Exhaust work Question

A customizing shop told me that if I remove the center mufflers that is on my car and replace them with a straight exhuast pipe, (procedure commonly known as Straight Piping), that it will increase horsepower dramtically even with the cat. converter, but the catch is of course, that the exhuast note will be a tad louder. I know deep down that sometimes, shops will tell you anything to get money, so if I was to remove them center mufflers 1) how much louder is a "tad" louder? And 2) what would the horse power gain be about?

Note: I'm more than likely going to keep these center mufflers, but they seem to have about one and half winters left in them before I have to take em out to replace the piping around them so just wondering for when that time comes. Money is not an issue.

Hey BlackWolf,

I heard the same thing when I inquired the job of straight-piping, but what stopped me was that those center mufflers (at least for my vehicle) is for resination. So, if you remove the resinator, that tad louder would more than likely be tremendous! You won't have the mercedes that you once knew. You would now have something that sounds like a muscle-car (inside and out).

So, ask yourself; "Do you feel lucky...huh, huh??? do ya wanna go there?

those are resinators, i dont know how do Mercedes sound without them, but i have removed them on my VW GTI VR6 and the sound increased a little bit, there was also a little difference felt under hard acceleration, gas pedal felt a little more responsive
