ESP & BAS displayed on dash....can't get car out of gear...tried diconnecting battery but no use...any ideas to the fault?

changed that...genuine part fitted...still no luck

unfortunately sounds like youll need a shifter assembly. you can get it out of park if you remove the shift ****, and bang the top of the shifter downward with a rubber mallet, as you pull the shifter out of park. what car do you drive? some cars have a shift release switch.

If I do bang the gear **** I take it that this breaks the plastic part inside the shifter....is this the the only damage it will cause.....the car is S320 W220

sounds like shift assembly I recenty changed mine its was about $800 included new shifter install and programmed

Thanks guys...I tapped the gear lever and it released...MB Specialist then cleared the faults and it's fine now

How exactly did he do that? once a shift assembly stoped working a new one is need ? i dont understand
