Dead battery, -w- removed CD changer
Ahoy, Mercedes Folk,
Here is an interesting – ‘happening’ with my ’06 S430, which involves a dead battery, and a (removed) CD changer.
My CD changer failed, so I removed it, to install a replacement, but it was bad, so I just left the CD changer out. Next day, a dead battery, so I replaced the (original battery). A few days later, the new battery was dead.
Charged, checked loads, and found ~~ 6 amp drain. (Later) learned that it takes a while for things to shut down, but within maybe ˝ hour, should be ~~ 50 milliamps. After an hour, found 2200 ma drain!
Car into a very good shop, who did LOTTSSAA tests, (see below) and they finally asked for the old CD changer, which they re-installed, and car is now OK. New problem in their experience.
I have long noticed that a modern car can be TERRIBLY offended by someone poking around under the hood with a screwdriver. I guess that this car ‘missed’ being complete, and this was an act of ‘retaliation’!

HIMSELF, HE UNHOOKED WIRES TO ALTERNATOR AND STILL HAS A DRAW.
VEHICLE WINDOWS ARE NOT SYNCRONISED.
WHILE SYNCRONISING WINDOWS FOUND RIGHT REAR WINDOW INOP. RAN QUICKTEST WITH SDS STAR DIAGNOSYS SYSTEM NO COMMUNICATION WITH RIGHT REAR DOOR CONTROL MODULE. CHECKED CHARGING SYSTEM CHARGING 14.2 VOLTS. CHECKED BATTERY, BATTERY OK. PERFORMED DRAW TEST 2AMP DRAW PRESENT. CHECKED DRAINS. FRONT DRAIN COMPLETELY PLUGGED CLEANED DRAIN AND CHECKED FOR WATER DAMAGE AT CARPETS AND REAR SAM/FUSE BOX. NO WATER DAMAGE. REAR SAM DOES HAVE SIGNS OF COFFEE OR JUICE SPILLED AT SOME POINT. HOOCKED SCOPE TO INTERIOR LOW CAN FOUND CAN STAYING AWAKE. TESTED INTERIOR CAN WITH SDSCAN CAN ANALISER. CENTRAL GATEWAY AND RADIO ARE STAYING AWAKE. REMOVED RADIO AND UNPLUGGED ELECTRICAL CONNECTION NO CHANGE DRAW STILL PRESENT. RADIO HAS NO SOUND OR RADIO RESEPTION. SOMETHING ON THE RING POSSIBLY DOWN. REMOVED LEFT TRUNK PANEL AND FOUND CD CHAGER MISSING AND RING OPEN. INSTALLED RING JUMPER AND DRAW WENT DOWN TO 150 MA. CUSTOMER DROPPED OFF CD CHANGER. INSTALLED CD CHANGER AND RESTARTED THE RING. RADIO HAS SOUND NOW AND RESEPTION. CHECKED FOR DRAW. DRAW WENT DOWN TO 80MA. DRAW SHOULD BE LESST THAN 50MA. WHILE TESTING FOUND RIGHT FRONT SEAT ADJUSTMENT INOP. POSSIBLY DRAW A LITTLE HIGHER DUE TO FRONT SEAT INOP OR RIGHT REAR WINDOW NOT SYNCRONISED. PASSENGER SEAT STARTED WORKING. Parts Labor Job T
