Default Comand Center -- "system unavailable"

Anyone experience this? I've got an '06 S55 and one day everything in the comand center just stopped working. The screen lights up when you hit 'power' but then after a few seconds it says "SYSTEM UNAVAILABLE" then it turns off. Doesn't matter if you try radio, CD, Nav, Service, Phone, etc. I tried resetting it from the service menu (had to race through the selections before the error message appeared) but it didn't help. Any advice would be appreciated.

Default Im Experiencing System Unavailable

Hey Navest, Im actually experiencing the same problem with my car. I have a 2004, S430 and all of a sudden the audio turned off and never worked properly after that incident. Now all it does is turn on, and after 15 seconds or so, it say's "system unavailable" and turns off. Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem? Please get back to me.

Default Test Battery

I am not familiar with 04's, I do know that on 08's the car has two batteries, one under the hood to start the engine and one in the trunk called the systems battery. My radio, nav and several other features went dead, turned out it was the trunk mounted battery. That battery is available from most retailers, the starter battery is a dealer purchase item only, around $200.00. I believe that in my case the "systems" must be voltage sensitive, because the windows and etc. worked just fine.

Thanks,

Default Battery

I should have been clearer in my post that replacing the battery solved my problem. I did start a thread here and on another site requesting assistance but no one came to my rescue. I took it to a dealer and they wanted to charge me for their error in locating the problem. If you have a electrical problem check your battery, if your car stops running check your fuel level and etc. In my case I had no idea that this car had two batteries, have a E Class and owned 7 other M/B's none had 2 batteries. And I know now to watch any repair facility.

Hi Callcoy,
I tried to replace the battery, but didn't work so I put back the old one there and returned the new one. In your case, I think there two batteries and all the power gone from the second battery. In my 2005 s430 there is only one battery and having the same problem with the original poster. I dropped the car in the dealer and it is been diagnosing now. I will share the result after I hear their word. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Ok, I was told to change the comand unit after long diagnosis. I still have a question how the comand unit is failed without any reason. I remember it was working fine for several minutes on the day it stopped working.
