I have a 2001 S-500 that I love. I'm right at 40k miles. I recently got a notice on the dash that says "B Service missed by 300 miles". When I contacted the dealer, they advised that the "B Service" costs $650.00. When they emailed me a list of what is covered in the B service, its all "Check this, and check that"....from what I gathered, the only thing they really change is the oil, oil filter and the interior dust filter? All of that for $650.00? Has anyone here had any experience with NOT doing the B service??? Help. THanks

RE: B Service missed-does it matter???
I wouldn't go to "5 minutes oil change", but independent shop, specializing in MB will do the service for 1/2 of the price, or less.
You can also do it yourself. Save the receipts for the oil and filters and find info how to reset service meter on this forum.

I agree with both answers, Change the oil at a indenpent Mercedes friendly shop. The dust filter could be easy or a job. On my C Class it is under the passenger side dash, you remove the cover and there are two off white sliders that you silide toward wach other and the cover for the dust filter comes off, NOTE which way the dust filter comes out, and reinstall the same way. Some cars, have two, ususally in the same place or close to one another. I change my own oil, I suck it out of the dipstick tube, (Mercedes approved) and the filter is on the top of my engine. replace the 9 qts of oil new filter element and it is done. on the S500 filter is, located on the driver side of the engine, don't know if it is accessible fromthe top? but you can still remove the old oil thru the dipstick. One thing every third of fourth oil change I take it to a shop and have it drained. If you do the dipstick removal warm the engine until the needle starts to move, so all the gunk is floating in the oil and not at sitting on the bottom of the tank. But with syn oil gunk is not a big problem unless you seldom change the oi. Griotgarage, MBCA offer oil removal products to remove the oil from the dipstick tube.
