94 S500L - External Mirrors
I recently acquired a 94 S500L. Of its few problems, one is that the external mirrors don't retract when switched. The switch operates perfectly for its other function of mirror adjustments (external and internal). Any ideas? I guess it runs off the vacuum system. Is it the same pump as the soft-closing doors? or the central locking one?
The mirrors are controlled by electric motors, not by vacuum. I would suspect a bad switch or electrical/fuse issue. The chances of both motors going bad at the same time is remote.

The vacuum pumps provide

(1) Locatedunder rear passengerseat: Vacuum for the hvac system when the engine is not providing it, pressure for the lumbar seat pads, vacuum for the (non electric) rear head rests (release only),vac/pressure for the back up rods, vac/pressure to lock and unlock for the doors, trunk, gas flap, trunk handle (later changed by service bulletin)

(2)Located over rear wheel next to gas tank: Vacuum for closing assist, individual for trunk, and doors, handle (after mod). Pump provides vacuum to pull in latch and then releases when door closes, also times out if it cannot achieve task in 10 seconds I think
