HUH???? as if the Lexus LS600 doesn't look plastic, it probably uses MORE plastic and no doubt thinner metal. Actually, the LS looks like a "copy" (and for GOOD reason) of a Mercedes S-class, sort of a mix of the w220 & w221 IMHO.

 

Just a silly poll, Im sure most have several reasons for their choice, but which was the most important factor in making your decision?

 

Are these U.S. gallons or UK gallons? UK gallons are about 15% larger.

Finally a hybrid I would love to buy. See, it CAN be done. You can design a hybrid that has soon room, style, nice ride, and isnt a death trap. You can save the environment without feeling like some martyr stuck in some toy looking appliance that happens to have doors and wheels.
And you dont need some wacky Prius like design to get good mileage. I might try to save and get me one some day. Now I think more luxury cars will follow suit and might be the end of havign to settle for some claustrophobia inducing car to get 40+ gas mileage.

My future after June 2011 is uncertain. My army career ends and will have a new career. Not the one to count my chickens before they hatch, I'll see what I can get, secure the job then wager from there even though I'm sure I wont have an issue finding nice pay in my line of work.

 

well then, now people can say they get 43mpg without being a hybrid? cool.

 

Is either the 43mpg S or the 80mpg Smart coming to the US?

Last year in Poland, we had a driver take us to Zakopanie from Krakow. 350 Diesel S class. You could not tell it was a diesel other than how well it pulled when he tromped on the pedal. Nice car.

I wonder how the 4-banger would be in that S Class, in terms of driveability.

But really, if you are buying an S, may as well get an AMG 12cyl car.
If I were buying a Smart, I'd want the 80mpg fuel burner.

 

Ah the smart car, uncomfortable buggers and no trunk space (two very high priorities gas mileage is somewhere down towards the bottom of the list.). Hey, when gas was over $4 a gallon, I still was driving the 560SEL and still filling it up with the good stuff premium and didnt even cross my mind to sell it.

I did joke with a friend about getting a Smart car and putting it inthe trunk of the W126, since he called the W126 a boat. The Smart car would be the lifeboat just in case something happens. "We're sinking Captain." "I see. Unstow the Smart car!"

 

When the SMART was officially coming over here. I put 99 bucks down to reserve one. I figured my wife and/or I could use the thing around town. Well, when I test drove the thing, I asked for my cash back, which was refunded promptly. The thing was huge on the inside for its apparant smallness on the outside, but the driveability sucked. After two stoplights, I wanted out.

I am guessing that with a diesel, it may not have such wierd driveability. But alas, not Diesel for us 'merkins.
