Does anyone have a method or know where I can find how to power flush the transmission?
Thanks, Mark

you don't.
it might damage the piston seals. you will have shifting problem.

flush only the oil cooler lines and oil cooler.

Why would you wanr to power flush the trans and what oil would you use to do so if you did?

Drop the pan to establish if there is any debris.
If there is you have a problem. If not then all is OK.
Change the filter and pan gasket and refill with the CORRECT oil.

Maybe I misused the word "power flush". I meant can someone explain how I can flush the transmission by disconnecting at the cooler and running the car to pump the fluid out.
I realize I can drop the pan and check the filter, but I also believe that this method still leaves much of the old fluid in the torque converter. I thought by flushing through the cooler return line that I could change all of the fluid.

Hi,
There is usually a drain plug on the Torque Convertor. Need to view from underside of vehicle with panelling removed. Turn engine over with spanner to determine position of drain since engine doesn't always stop with drain plug in optimum position for removal.

Stuart,
Is there anywhere that I can find a picture of the torque converter plug that I would be looking for? I assume that the engine would be turned over using a wrench on the crank nut? If so, in which direction should it be turned?
Thanks, Mark

Turning engine with wrench. Direction of rotation doesn't really matter (unless you are a purist). Convention is Clockwise when looking from front of engione. That is the way it normally rotates. The crank pulley nut is so tight it won't come undone accidentally in either direction.

Sorry dont have a pic. IF there is a plug on the TC it will become obvious when it has been turned into line with the window in the bell housing/casing. If you don't see it it is likely your model doesn't have one. Not all TC's do.

Stuart, if the TC doesn't have a drain plug how is it possible to do a complete change of the trans. fluid?

I feel confident that you do have a drain plug.

If however you do not you cannot fully drain the TC without dismantling the trans.

That takes us back to the initial issue. Why change the oil? If you have done 100k+ miles then changing the oil (with the correct MB spec) will do no harm and may in fact be slightly beneficial. However use the wrong oil and you would be better leaving things well alone. A 50% change using the correct oil is a halfway house.

Changing the oil without changing the filter and ensuring the pan doesn't have any ominous debris in it will reduce much of the benefit of "changing the oil"

Guess this reply will stir up the hornets nest again.

Stuart,
On my Volvo I drop the pan and clean the filter. Put the pan back on and add 2 quarts of fluid. Then I disconnect the return line from where it exits the cooler. Start the car and pump 2 quarts at a timefrom the return line until I've reached 8 quarts. Pump 2 quarts and add 2 quarts and so on. Thus the pan and filter have been cleaned and about 99% of the fluid has been changed.

Are you saying that with 60,000 miles I might be just as well off just to leave it and do nothing at this point?
