Default 2000 S500 diagnostics

EZ-Scan 4000 with OBD-II Protocol Support by AutoXray

Will this or any other scanner provide fault codes on the S500 I just bought?

Will it or any other scanner allow me to reset the service maintenance intervals if I do the service myself?

the must be a brochure or specs that goes with it.

you may read them first.

most of them can do the fault code retrieval, and clearing.

doing the service is only done through your multifunction steering wheel.

If equipped with FSS system you can reset the service interval counter yourself. If you have an owners manual the procedure is outlined in there, at least in my manual for my 99 C280 it is. I do my own service, to a point. I reset the counter after I change the oil. I've read the FSS system is more for oil service intervals as my car for example can go in theory 10K miles between oil changes. I change it every 5K miles with Mobil 1. Other services such as brake fluid change, anti freeze is usually based on time, ie 2 years.

Thanks for the info. Any generic code reader will work for the basic code retrieval. Is there a way retieve the codes without a scanner/reader? On my 97 pathfinder you turn a screw on the ecu and your check engine light flashes long and short giving you the trouble code.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at the owner's manual for instructions on clearing the service reminders. My last mercedes was a 94 e400 and I didn't have those service reminders.

Do any of you know of any good repair manual for a 2000 mercedes s500?

Mercedes went with the FSS when they changed to the V6, which in my car was 99. What engine do you have, I met a guy with a 90 or 91 S500, I forget the exact year, but it had the straight six. I would think a big heavy car like the S would come standard with a V8, but I'm not up on the S class vehicles.

Its a v8

I think the s420 is also a v-8 but smaller. The s600 is a v12.

if its a 500 model, then it should have a V8 engine.
6 cynlinder engines are 300 or 320 models.
Mercedes had been importing the inline 6 s-class (se, sel) to the U.S. but no V6 models.
The smallest engine offered in a s-class now is the V6 (2.8L) once found in C-class. S280 only comes in standard wheelbase

What is an S280? Thanks. Yes I have the 2.8L in my 99 C280 and imho it is quite a engine, combined with the drive by wire throttle and 5 speed transmission, which is control electronically, it is a great combo, for a "sedan" I blow away BMW 325 and 330(?) all the time. Most other American cars also, except the Vette, and the new Dodge and Chryslers Rams, these cars fly. I test drove a Dodge with the ramchager engine last week just to see how fast it really is. For a car of its size and weight, it hauls. Oh, Neon SRT's can beat me off the line but run out of steam I found in the upper rpm ranges.
