I have a few problems/questions about my car
1.) What is a secondary air injection pump? ( I failed a smog test because of this device)
2.) I took my car to a car wash and shortly afterwards the car keeps running in manual gear and my gear shift to go back automatic is not working. What causes this?
Any answer will help

in simple words: during startup of cold engine, the fuel takes time to burn so the control unit adjusts the timing and enrich the injection time.
this results to high exhaust values.
injection pump therefore injects air to the exhaust side which reacts with the hot gases. an oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon takes place (afterburning). this afterburning (exothermic reaction) leads to a futher increase in exhaust temperature which additionaly heats the catalytic converter.
the catalytic converter can only function well on a certain high temperature.
so.... if the air injection pump isn't working, the catalytic converter cannot function well and the exhaust gas value are high and you will fail the emission test.
common problem is just the relay.
your transmission is running in limp home mode or emergency running.
check for fault codes, see if there is a presence of oil on the transmission control unit.
