Default 2000 S430 Transmission Problem

I have been having a problem lately with my transmission. There are only 46k miles on the car. Last week I was at a gas station and when I went to leave the car wouldnt remove itself from Park and go into gear. Waited for a few seconds then I pulled it into drive and left. I didn't think much of it. Today went out to my car and it wouldnt come out of park. Tried everyway to get it into any gear. I let it warm up, put the parking break on, restarted it, turned the wheel from lock to lock, but nothing worked. Now everytime I touch the break I hear a clicking noise where the shift stick is. Any idea what is wrong? Having it towed tomorrow to my local Mercedes dealer.

Default RE: 2000 S430 Transmission Problem

Hi,
Appears that the SAFETY lock at the SELECTOR LEVER has jammed for some reason.
You need to put your foot on the BRAKE when moving out of P. This sends an electric signal to the SELECTOR which in turns pulls a "PIN" out of the mechanical mechanism to allow movement.
Usual problem is brake switch failure and therefore no electrical signal.
Since you can hear clicking so either solenoid has reduced strength (part burnt out) or alternatively the PIN is stuck for some unusual reason. This may require a new SELECTOR mech/module if the solenoid is not available on its own.

Good Luck!

Stuart.
