I've got a 2000 s500 that has a clunking/snapping noise in the left
front.I had it checked out by a local mercedes repair shop and was
told everything was in good shape. However they said there was a
service bulletin stating the noise could be coming from the strut
and resealing it would correct the problem.The clunking/snapping is
severe and I find it hard to believe something isn't litterally falling off.
any advise would be very helpful. Thank you, John

 

it could be the front strut; the only other remote possibility is either the upper/lower control arm. The "clunking for me was in-fact the ball joints had worn over time. They are relatively cheap to have replaced.
