My 1995 S500 had been leaking some fluid for a while. Under the hood i noticed the reservoir that is labeled "Hydraulic" is completely empty. what is this used for? power steering?
can i get "Hydraulic fluid" from any auto parts store?

Koji, there's usually a part number right on the label. Did you look? You won't find these fluids at XYZ Auto Parts. Don't mix/cross-contaminate fluids. They're typically quite specialized and $$$.

Depending upon model, that reservoir can service just the suspension or suspension + power steering.

you mean there is a part number labeled on the reservoir?

 

On our car the fluid part number is printed on a yellow label on the reservoir fill cap. Check to see if you have the same.

this is a 12 year old car that my brother gave me to drive with very low miles, about 60,000, but lately with numerous problems,from Starter, Rear suspension,Distributor Cap. He doesn't want to get it fixed from the cost standpoint relative to the age of the car.
it is just sitting in my driveway now but i just want to get it barely running to take it to the Smog check.
