Hi.

I got this problem aswell. I had the car in mb workshop here in sweden, they changed something in the steeringwheel and then it stopped for a month or so, now it´s back. And the car goes realy bad when the helpsystem is out. The breakpedal is mutch harder.
I will go and test the battery. But it is strange that a mb workshop can´t fix this. This seames to be a common problem.

Best regard

This happened only once on the first start 1week after I bought the S430 (very unsetteling). Owning a Chrysler 300C with various and sundrie electrical glitches with even more computers controlling everything than the S, I simply re booted like I do in the C and I have not had the problem recur. If it does, I will follow the advice given.

OK Sleepwalker. Finally got the car in to the shop. Following error codes read:
P2314,P2316,P2336, P207D, P203E, C1024, C1026, B1000.
All codes except for P231 AND P203E indicate fault in communication with control unit N73(EIS control module).
Shop is saying need new EIS which needs to be progammed total cost including labor around $800.00.
Another problem I encountered SRS stays on . Code read: B1867(the ignition circuit with component R12/20 has >ohm. Shop says there is a bulleten regarding this code something about wiring in the door near the pillar.
Your input will be greatly appreciated.

This might sound dumb, but I dont know the difference between "stored or current". The repair shop provided me with a printout of the diagnosois which spells out the codes.
As for the problem, I get intermittent malfunctions: bas, esp, abs, stop lamp.
The problem started being on the 1st start of the day only, now it can happen any time during the day. In one incident, after driving with the malfunction on for about 20 miles, I turned off the engine, then the key wouldnt turn in the ignition although I was able to take the key in and out of the ignition , the key wouldnt phsically turn in the ignition, nor was I able to lock the car with remote. I disconected the battery for a few minutes and reconnected and the key problem was solved.

All,

I just had the battery replaced (it was stone dead). When I started the car for the first time, the BAS and ESP malfunctions came on. If I read this thread right, this is due to the drop in voltage due to the dead battery, correct? All was working perfectly fine prior to the dead battery.

Thanks in advance. Don't want to go to the dealer, yet - they will just throw parts at it and charge me $1,000.

- Craig
