"01 S600 telephone ... help!
I just picked up a 2001 S600. My god it has alot of stuff! It seems like the built in telephone played an integral part in its design, from the steering wheel, on the nav system, the built in mic, the dialpad to the right of the nav and the data cable in the center console. It would be great if I could actually use any of it. The dealership says that the cable in the console plugged into a Motorola StarTac. According to them, even if I could find an old StarTac, I couldnt activate it. In a perfect world I would love to get an adapter that made my Motorola RAZR utilize the existing built in hardware. So far the only solution that anyone has offered is to go to a car stereo shop and have them install an aftermarket bluetooth car kit. I will treat that as my last option.
How can I use the existing hardware? Can I get an adapter to make it work with my phone/service? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

It was either Star-Tac or Timeport and neither are available since they are not 911 compliant, they also have to be specific proprietary MB units per carrier. Since you have most of the stuff look at the MIKbox website they have adapters for 01 and up, not cheap, since you might need a PSE and other stuff. Dont buy anything on E Bay you will be sorry.
I am not impressed with the Bluetooh kit, I have Razors and dont have them integrated, just gave away a Timeport and some other stuff.

The biggest problem in using the old phones is that many of them are analog and most carriers are using nothing but digital because of the increased bandwidth available. You can get adaptors to hook many Motorola phones to the system, but not the Nextel versions. Nextel has its own protocol, especially in their phone books, where you have to specify the type of number; home, work, mobile etc. My Nextel I90c plugs in, charges and the speaker and microphone works, but the interface with Command does not.

The Timeport has been discontinued since 02 I believe, the best alternative is a new PSE and the Mikbox Kit. I did find a V3 cradle and cable but for $300 I dont know. We own both Razors an V195s, and have the Timeport wiringin the car. I just go manually,
I wish Tel Aid would have been an option, it's Analog and will be discontinued shortly unless you buy a new transmitter from MB. I read somewhere thay if you disconnect it you trigger a fault code in the dash display.
