The SRS light appeared last night with the message of bring the car to the garage. Well come to find out MB has issued another technical bulliten that the wire harness in the steering column is too short causing a electrical transmission problem. MB has manufactured a connector to correct the engineering problem. At the customers cost? Really! Has anyone else had this problem?

That's not good. I have not heard of that one. I have found that more R folks seem to be on the other forums. Try google search for r class forum. You might get more responses there. I usually do.

 

this is a known problem. there is an updated wire harness for the steering coloum module. the old harness is to short which causes codes in srs for high resistance of ignition squibs for drivers airbag. we removed the steering coloum module (blinker, cruise, wiper switch) cut out the connector and solder in a new harness approx 12in longer which creates the correct resistance. this was not a campaign, but is a well known issue (E, ML, R ,GL C, CLK.) you are not alone. since it is not a campaign, if you are out of warranty, sorry they make you have to pay.
