K&N Air Filters / R350 (W251?)
i put in k&n air filters before i drove to florida (from long island) last thanksgiving. in north carolina at a rest stop, the car lurched forward after stopping ina parking space. from that point on it seemed to downshift abruptly when slowing to a stop. out on the road again, the check engine light came on a short time later. while in florida i had the tranny checked and it checked out ok. when i got back to ny someone told me the oil film from the k&n's gets into the mass air flow sensor and causes the check engine light. k&n says this has been proven false. i took out the filters and replaced with oem's. the problem persisted (ran better each time i had the code cleared, but the light always came back with the tranny shifting problem and reduced gas mileage 50 miles later. my local mechanic suggested that mass air flow sensor was bad so i replced it. still the same problem. my dealer checked it out and $200 later said it was the mass air flow sensor not being installed properly (pretty impossible as the clips lineed up), but i did feel that air filter housing was hard to get clipped down in the rear and maybe wasn't sitting down all the way in the back where it sits on the mass air flow sensor. anyone out there have any similar problems? is anyone using k&n air filters in their r350 with no check engine light problem arising? please let me know.
