My old 98 Ml is headed to the dump or trade, 161000 mile and runs like a dream but was told the transfer case is shot. Something about a bolt that was miss-threaded and seized up? I can still drive it for a while but I have to be careful accelerating, if I power up to fast there is a clunking sound in the lower gear. Dealer quoted $7200 unfortunately the car is probable only worth 3k.

 

Find a TC out of a wreck

 

Yes, the dealer wants a stupis amount of money for a new one. Buy a used one on eBay, or find a local 4WD place and have them rebuild yours.
