Does anyone have any thoughts on this... The other day a family member borrowed our ML350 ('06) and pulled too hard on the e-brake release handle to the left of the steering wheel. The thing popped out.

So now you can see the cable and it's possible to place the cable (with its little ball thing on the end of it) back in the lever just fine, but when you slide the lever back it it's hole there is nothing for it to hook onto. You can push it all the way in to where it belongs but it just slide back out an inch and sits there?

Suggestions? My next thought is to remove the lower half of the plastic down there to try and see what's happening...

Have you repaired this? The same thing happened to me, and I'm concerned because this car is my boyfriend's and I'm scared to see the sticker on what it will cost to repair. If you could let me know your experience, I would greatly appreciate it.
