New owner of an old problem
Hey guys! I've searched around quite a bit and can't seem to get an opinion, so here we go: I bought a 98 ML320 for a VERY attractive price, and I'm starting to doubt. The shifter assembly needed replacement following a disastrous pop spill and continued use. I replaced the whole assembly and drove the car up and down the 1/2 mile stretch of road in front of my house. When I came back into the driveway I was able to reverse into a parking spot, but that's it. None of the gears will engage when it is warmed up. When I allow the car to cool down completely it will go right into any of the gears, including the low range. Once it warms up, however, it will not go into gear. I bought a dipstick for it, and putting it down the tube until it feels like it hits bottom nets me about an inch of fluid on the black plastic end piece. I'm wary of adding too much fluid. Any thoughts?
