I am getting 15 mpg's on my 2004 350. Does this sound right? Would like to know what others are getting.

We average 17-18 at 80-85 MPH on our ML320.
It goes over 20 MPG on fuel out of California.

 

80-85 mph is way over the speed limit by the way. You can get a reckless driving ticket in VA with that speed.

 

I believe you can get a ticket for this speed anywhere on this continent.
That's why I didn't hesitate to shave $400 for Valentine radar detector.
Roughly what I experienced, going 85 will cost you about 20 % extra fuel consummation, comparing to 75 MPH.
Part of it is the fact, that going faster, than average traffic you have to brake and accelerate more often, than going steady 75.

 

Does the radar detector really save you from the cops? What do you do about the cops with laser guns?

 

Never noticed laser gun in CA. I had laser alarm on my old Cobra coming on, but for no visible reason. After buying Valentine, I drove with both for about 3000 miles, only to discover, that Cobra is piece of garbage, that picks all communication waves, giving very low and late warning about actual radars.
Valentine in the open will sense cop for a mile.

 

Don't cops have something that detects radar detectors??

 

Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia and Washington, DC. Cops use radar detector detectors there.

Cops in the rest of the states don't care. I don't know anything about Canada.

 

If you drive in the state, where it's illegal... keep it on, but the second you get a warning, you shut it down, slow down, quickly dismount it adn drive the speed limit for the next 5-10 minutes. Then you can put it back on.

 

You sound like an accident waiting to happen.
