Default maybe the crank position sensor

I have a 2004 ML 350, it has a full MB service history, only covered 50,025 miles. on Sunday after driving 9 miles i put it into reverse and the engine stalled. yesterday my wife drove the car on school runs several times, then in the evening drove the car 6 miles got to a set of traffic lights, put her foot on the brake to stop whilst sitting at the lights the engine cut out and would not restart, had the car recovered as it would not restart - think it is the crank position sensor - can i replace it without having to reset any of the computers?

Year: 2004
Mileage: 50025
