Loud Clunk at Acceleration???????
Hey everybody ive been trying to bring my 1999 Ml 430 back to its former glory and now that she drives agian thanks to NAZ telling me my crankshaft sensor was bad. I have a loud clunking noise at acceleration sounds like its from the center of the car. I just did all motor and trans mounts and rebuilt front suspension I thought the clunk was up front in the suspension or mounts before but now I can tell it is definatlly form the middle of the car. Thanks to all the gurus in advance

Hi KJ,
If this loud clunk happenes only ones while taking off and same clunk you can hear while comming to quick stop would be the sway bar bearing bushing. Piece of plastic supporting the bar end at the back (twist or ride height adjustment).
If it is continuous clinking sound at acceleration, I would say that your driveshaft support bearing is bad (dry) and needs replacement.
Both of these are in about center of your vehicle underbody.
Good luck,
Bernard
