Thumbs down Exhaust gas recirculation EGR malfunction

Hello, this is my first posting and i am hoping someone will respond for me to be able to have a piece of mind driving to work. My engine light turned on and it i understand that i need to replace the egr valve and egr tube. Can i continue driving my car without having something else go wrong for not fixing this right away? I believe this problem just affects the emission systems which i will need to fix before getting smoke check certifiction to pay for registration and it also gives me less driving power/gas milage but it does not affect the motor. Am i correct and can i continue driving my car?

My opinion is that you can continue to drive your car without causing damage, but with less power available as it is in 'limp' mode.
