Aftermarket (Pioneer) Nav Sys _ Speed sensor

Hello everybody,
I had a Pioneer Navigation System installed in my 2003 ML350 by the Service Dept of the store where I bought the system. Unfortunately, the installer couldn't complete the installation because he didn't know where to connect the pink wire (speed sensor), and it was too late to call Mercedes. I have learned since that Mercedes couldn't help him anyway, since they don't know themselves which wire is the speed sensor wire in my car (apparently, in Canada, Mercedez dealers are not allowed to install aftermarket products in a Mercedez, so they only install Mercedez Nav System with cluster connections).
Could anyone tell me where I could get information regarding the connection of that pink wire to the speed sensor of my car? Do I need an adaptor or something like that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the only place where they can get the raw speed signal is from the traction control unit.
from there, it will be distributed as CAN.

Hi Sleepwalker,
Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.
Your instructions seem to be adressed to the person who installed my system, but since I plan to connect the wire myself (I live an hour away from the big city), could you be more specific?![EEK!](https://mercedesforum.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif)
The picture you attached shows the relay and fuse box, and the diagram looks like the wiring of the relay boxes. Now, I guess I can't connect the wire in the relay, so could you tell me how and where I connect it?
Have a great day!![Smile](https://mercedesforum.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Hi Sleepwalker,
The Pioneer GPS System is an AVIC-D1; the picture you have attached is the same page I have in my installation manual, and the same page which shows the connection I have a problem with.
My VIN is 4JGAB57E93A455906
I have ABS, ESP, ETS and I think the vehicle is also equiped with BAS, but I am not sure.
I hope this answers your request, and I thank you again for your much appreciated help.
I am looking forward to hear again from you soon.

okay, we two choices to do this"
1. getting vehicle speed signal (DFA)... and i suggest we will get it from the line intended for your navigation.
i know you got no navigation because your radio is alpine.
2. we will get raw RPM signal (DF) from the wheel speed sensor.
all are safe and doesn't affect anything.
let's do the number 1 first!

looking at that wiring diagram, the signal must come from N47 or ESP control unit.
we will get from output... means the signal has been processed.
we will connect from DFA HL or vehicle speed signal, rear left.

looking at that wiring diagram again, you must find the connector X25/2.
see the picture for the location of this connector.

once you find the X25/2, you will see two rows of connector. A and B.
on connector A, look for pin number 12.
the color is blue.
you connect fron there. it doesn't matter which side... it's just the same.
i will be back after half an hour to post the 2nd option... to connect from wheel speed sensor.
