Accelerator is sticking
I have an ML500 (2002) and have tried 3 or 4 times to get my accelerator fixed with no luck. The pedal does not stick in position in that it always springs back, but when I pull away I need to put too much pressure on the pedal to move it from a 'stuck position'. Similarly, in changing speed the pedal has to be pushed down too hard to move it out of its 'stuck' position. This makes smooth driving of the car very difficult. I have had new pedals, accelerator cables, lubes etc done and it still happens. Is this a common feature of Mercedes accelerators?
not on all mercs yes on m class when they first came we had to fit a swivel pins on padel, due to padel used to move side to side is your padel movin side to side, say if you hold it try and move it side to side rather than pressin,if it moves sides you ll requre a new padel pin from your MB DEALER..........
My guess is the butterfly valve (I think that's what it's called)on the air intake is getting clogged with carbon deposits. It's located on the rear of the engine and is a royal pain to get at. When I cleaned mine (ML320 2001) the pedal was much less sticky but not perfect. Had the same problem on my Silverado except it was right up front, pop the cover, clean it fixed...interestingly the Chevy dealer told me it was from bad gas so I switched brands and sure enough it never happened again.
Try putting snake oil drops down cable. Disconnect cable off engine side lift it up then let oil go down cable do it a couple of times. Then see what happens I had mine done works well
