Default 2002 ML320 Coolant Leak

Losing small amount of coolant somewhere. I can smell it while the engine it hot. Really haven't started the trouble shooting process, other than look from the top of the engine at the overflow tank and hoses, which look dry.

Next step is to check radiator hoses, and crawl underneath vehicle for inspection.

Is there something more 'obvious' that I should be expecting, like a wear part known to fail after a certain number of years or miles in these vehicles? (ie. water pump)

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum! The only part that is known to fail is the Auxiliary Coolant Pump; that could result in a leak. I'm attaching a link to our site's DIY tech articles on the W163 platform. We have a couple of tech articles that relate to the coolant. Please let us know if you have any other questions or if we can assist with any future part needs.
