Recently purchased a 2003 G500 / 26,000 miles and7 months left on the factory warranty, which expired Dec '07.I have never been so disappointed in an automobile in my life! I have already had all four window motors replaced, electric headrest motor, door locks, gas cap, gas pedal sensor(yikes!), sunroof, headliner, etc etc (four pages of warranty work) etc!!! Now I am on the extended Mercedes warranty for another year which doesn't cover much. Today I realized my foward/aft seat adjustment only moves the seat forward regardless if I 'pull' the switch to the aft position. I like the uniqueness of the G Wagon, but the trips to the dealer are wearing me out...I tried to have the dealer adjust the doors so they wouldn't have to be slammed and possibly wouldn't shake everything inside the panel to death, but to no avail! common issues. yes. the thing is a heavy duty truck almost a tank.
the suspesion is heavy duty and its not meant to be quiet like a benz. its a truck!. the seats and windows are a common issue. the door control module need to have new gold pins soldered into the connections. there is a bulletin about that.

 

Get a newer one. I have had two of them....the 02 had tons of those kinds of problems but my second one the last Grand Edition made had very few problems. Wait till you start hearing the squeaking in the dash and water leaking in through the screw hole of the wind screen wipers!
