I have a 2004 E320 with 70,000 miles and it appears the transfer case needs replacing because of a rumble on sharp turning left and right. Been a fine car - but this seems a huge amount of money and a major mechanical breakdown for the number of miles. It's a one-owner that I bought new. Thoughts, advice?

Most of the time if you flush the fluid and renew it, the noise will go away, or at least improve considerably. its worth a shot. should only cost a few hundred bucks at a Benz dealer. The 211 E class and 203 C class both had those issues with transfer case chatter, and the fix was to renew the fluid.

The transfer case has 3 plugs for transfer case oil. The fill port, Checking the level port, and the drain plug.
